How it works

Setup takes under 5 minutes. Then it's one tap, forever.

Step 01

Link a habit to an NFC tag

Inside your Habit Nova dashboard, create a tag and assign any habit to it. You get a unique tap URL — no re-programming ever needed.

Step 02

Write the URL to an NFC tag

Use a free app like NFC Tools to write your tag's URL to any NFC tag. Tags work with any NTAG213/215 format and last for years.

Step 03

Tap. Done.

Phone touches tag → habit is logged instantly. No app to open, no login, no tapping through menus. One physical tap is all it takes.

Why physical reminders outperform apps

Neuroscience research consistently shows that environmental cues are stronger habit triggers than notifications. Push notifications are easy to ignore, dismiss, or silence — that's why Habit Nova doesn't rely on them. Your NFC tags placed on your water bottle, bathroom mirror, or gym bag are always there — passively nudging you every single time you encounter them. All your updates live inside your dashboard, and push alerts are completely optional.

"You don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."

— James Clear, Atomic Habits

NFC tags make your habit system physical. The tag is the system. It can't be muted.

What you gain

Every tap does more than log a habit.

Zero friction at the moment of truth

The hardest part of any habit is starting. A physical tap reduces the decision to muscle memory — your body acts before your brain can talk you out of it.

Cue is built into your environment

James Clear's research shows context cues drive 90% of habits. Placing an NFC tag on your water bottle, gym bag, or pill bottle makes the cue unavoidable.

Faster than any app

Opening an app, finding the habit, tapping complete takes ~10 seconds. A tap logs in under a second. That speed compounds over months.

Full analytics still tracked

Every tap feeds your Habit Nova analytics dashboard — streaks, completion rates, weekly trends. You get the simplicity of a physical trigger with the insight of a digital tracker.

You control who can tap

Choose per tag: leave it open so family or friends can tap without an account, or flip it to login-required so only you can log it.

Pairs with Productivity Widgets

Link NFC tags to built-in widgets — Pomodoro Timer, Countdown Timer, Lists, and Journal. Tap a tag to start a focus session, open a checklist, or begin a journal entry.

Built-in analytics

A tap is never just a tap

Every NFC tap feeds your Habit Nova analytics. Streaks build, completion rates climb, and weekly patterns emerge — whether you tapped or a family member tapped for you.

Streak tracking

Never break a streak without knowing it.

Completion rates

See which habits stick and which need work.

Tap history

Full log of when and how often you tapped.

Honest limitations

NFC tags aren't magic. Here's what to know before you start.

Requires an NFC-capable phone

Most iPhones (XS+) and Android phones (2015+) support NFC. Older devices won't tap-to-open.

Tags can be lost or damaged

Physical objects wear out. Waterproof tags hold up better in wet environments, and you can always rewrite a new tag with the same URL at no extra cost.

Not ideal for habits with variable inputs

Simple yes/no habits tap instantly. Habits where you track a number (e.g. glasses of water) will prompt you to enter the value — one extra step.

Placement takes thought

A tag in the wrong place is useless. You'll want to think about where in your environment you'd naturally encounter the cue.
