Question 1

How long does it really take to form a habit?

Accepted Answer

The popular "21 days" myth is misleading. Research by Dr. Phillippa Lally found that it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic, but this can range from 18 to 254 days depending on the complexity of the habit, the individual, and consistency. The key is consistency, not a specific timeframe.

Question 2

Why do habits fail and how can I prevent it?

Accepted Answer

Habits fail for several reasons: setting goals that are too ambitious, relying on motivation instead of systems, lacking environmental cues, and not having accountability. To prevent failure: start small (2-minute rule), use habit stacking, design your environment to support the habit, and track your progress consistently.

Question 3

What is habit stacking and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

Habit stacking is a strategy where you pair a new habit with an existing one using the formula: "After [CURRENT HABIT], I will [NEW HABIT]." For example: "After I pour my morning coffee, I will write three things I'm grateful for." This leverages neural pathways you've already built, making it easier to remember and perform the new behavior.

Question 4

Can I change multiple habits at once?

Accepted Answer

While possible, it's not recommended. Research shows that focusing on one habit at a time significantly increases your success rate. Once a habit becomes automatic (usually 2-3 months), you can add another. If you must work on multiple habits, ensure they're in different life areas and start extremely small with each one.

Question 5

Why is it so hard to break bad habits?

Accepted Answer

Bad habits are hard to break because they're deeply wired into your neural pathways and often provide immediate rewards or relieve discomfort. Your brain has associated certain cues with these behaviors, creating automatic responses. Additionally, many bad habits fill legitimate needs (stress relief, boredom, connection), so simply stopping isn't enough—you need to replace them with better alternatives.

Question 6

What's the best strategy for breaking a bad habit?

Accepted Answer

The most effective approach combines multiple strategies: (1) Identify and remove or avoid triggers, (2) Replace the bad habit with a positive alternative that satisfies the same need, (3) Increase friction for the bad habit (make it harder to do), (4) Find an accountability partner, and (5) Address the underlying need the habit fulfills. Focus on building a new identity rather than just changing behavior.

Question 7

How do I deal with cravings when breaking a habit?

Accepted Answer

Cravings typically peak and pass within 10-15 minutes. Strategies: (1) Use the "surf the urge" technique—observe the craving without acting on it, (2) Engage in a substitute activity immediately, (3) Practice the 10-minute rule—delay acting on the craving for 10 minutes, (4) Remove yourself from the triggering environment, (5) Use deep breathing or mindfulness techniques. Remember: cravings get weaker over time.

Question 8

What if I relapse on a bad habit?

Accepted Answer

Relapses are normal and part of the process. The key is how you respond: (1) Don't catastrophize—one slip doesn't erase your progress, (2) Analyze what triggered the relapse without self-judgment, (3) Adjust your strategy based on what you learned, (4) Get back on track immediately—don't wait for Monday or the first of the month, (5) Practice self-compassion. Research shows people who are kind to themselves after setbacks are more likely to succeed long-term.

Question 9

How do I log a habit?

Accepted Answer

From your customizable dashboard, tap any habit card or use a Quick Action shortcut to log instantly. You can also scan an NFC tag placed anywhere in your environment (desk, fridge, gym bag) to log a habit with zero friction. Each log is timestamped and saved to your history so you can review it anytime.

Question 10

Can I see only the habits I still need to do today?

Accepted Answer

Yes. At the top of the Habits page, switch from All to To do and you'll see only the habits that are due today and not logged yet (the same ones the Today ring counts). Done shows what you've already logged. The Sort button orders the list by category (the default), name, longest streak, newest or oldest, or puts what's left to do first, and your phone remembers the sort you picked.

Question 11

How do streaks work — do they have to be daily?

Accepted Answer

No — streaks adapt to your habit's frequency. Daily habits build streaks by logging each day. Weekly habits count consecutive weeks where you hit your target (e.g. 3 times that week). Monthly habits count consecutive months. When you create or edit a habit, choose Daily, Weekly, or Monthly — and for Weekly/Monthly you can set exactly how many logs per period count as a completed streak. A 3-week streak on a weekly habit means three full weeks in a row where you hit your goal.

Question 12

What are Quick Actions and how do I customize my dashboard?

Accepted Answer

Quick Actions are one-tap shortcuts displayed at the top of your dashboard for your most-used features — logging habits, starting challenges, viewing history, messaging, and more. Tap the customize icon (pencil) to open the edit panel. You can add or remove actions and reorder them however you like. Your layout is saved automatically.

Question 13

What are NFC tags and how do they work with habits?

Accepted Answer

NFC tags are small, programmable stickers you can place anywhere in your environment. In Habit Nova, you can link each NFC tag to a specific habit. When you tap your phone to the tag, it instantly opens the log screen for that habit. It's perfect for habit cues—put a tag on your water bottle, yoga mat, or kitchen counter for instant no-friction logging.

Question 14

What are Productivity Widgets?

Accepted Answer

Productivity Widgets are 21 built-in tools available on every plan. Focus: Pomodoro Timer, Countdown Timer with saveable presets and Stopwatch. Health: Water Tracker, Weight Tracker, Workout Tracker, Sleep Tracker and Medication (meds and supplements dose by dose, with reminders). Recovery: Days Free, Money / Time Saved and Panic SOS. Mind: Journal with mood tracking, Journal Prompter with 365 daily prompts, Daily Quotes from 20+ books, Meditate (guided breathing and a meditation timer), Reading Log (pages, progress and a bookshelf with photos of your own covers) and Your Why (a reason and a photo for each habit). Planning: Lists (Free: 2 lists, Basic & Pro: unlimited), Quick Launch shortcuts, Weekly Review and Goals (count down to a target like 100 miles by June). All widgets live right on your dashboard alongside your habits and analytics — choose a preset theme to match your style. On Basic and Pro, you can pair widgets with habits for auto-logging on completion, create custom timer presets, and combo templates. Pro adds journal mood analytics over time. You can also pair widgets with NFC tags so a single tap starts a focus timer, logs weight, or opens your checklist.

Question 15

Can I view my full habit log history?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The History page shows every habit log entry with filters for date range, specific habits (including deleted ones), and log source. You can see exactly which days you logged, what values you tracked, and spot patterns over time. Entries are sorted by most recent by default.

Question 16

What are AI Assessments and how do I save them?

Accepted Answer

AI Assessments analyze your habit data and generate personalized insights, suggestions, and progress summaries. After running an assessment, you can save the result to review later from the Saved Results section. Saved results can be exported as PDF or deleted when no longer needed.

Question 17

What is the AI Habit Coach and how is it different from AI Assessments?

Accepted Answer

The AI Habit Coach is a live chat built into your dashboard that's always available (Free: 3 messages a month to try it, Basic: 30 a month, Pro: daily coaching). It has real-time access to your habits, streaks, NFC tap activity, widget-habit pairings, water intake, and 7-day analytics — so every response is personalised to your actual data. You can ask it anything: "which habit should I focus on?", "which widget should I pair to this habit?", "how are my NFC taps looking?". It can recommend which widgets to pair with which habits for automatic logging, spot patterns in your NFC usage, and coach you on hydration. Your conversations are saved for 7 days and you can browse past chats from the AI Coach Chats page. AI Assessments are different: they're structured one-time reports that produce a full personalised action plan you can save and export as PDF. Free users get 1 assessment/month, Basic gets 10, and Pro gets unlimited. Both features use AI, but the Coach is conversational while Assessments are in-depth reports.

Question 18

What does my overall completion rate mean?

Accepted Answer

Your completion rate shows the percentage of days within your analysis window where you logged at least one habit. For example, if you've logged habits on 5 out of the last 7 days, your rate is ~71%. It's a broad indicator of your consistency—aim to improve it gradually rather than chasing 100% immediately.

Question 19

How is the per-habit completion rate calculated?

Accepted Answer

Each habit's rate is its number of unique logged days divided by the total days in your analysis window. A habit logged on 4 out of 7 days shows 57%. This gives you a fair comparison across all habits regardless of when they were created.

Question 20

What analytics are available on each plan?

Accepted Answer

Every major widget — Hydration, Weight, Focus (Pomodoro), Time Invested (Timer/Stopwatch), Journal, Recovery (Days Free + Money Saved + Panic SOS), Lists, and Routines — has its own analytics card with tier-gated depth. Free plan: 7-day bar chart view, per-habit completion stats, and a preview card per widget (today's stat + 7-day mini trend). Basic plan: 30-day per-widget charts, streaks and deltas, day-of-week patterns, category breakdowns (built-in + your custom categories), NFC tap analytics, milestone badges, and a per-habit breakdown with search/sort/view-all. Pro plan: 365-day year grids per widget, hour-of-day distributions, best-ever banners and lifetime totals, journal mood breakdown + top-tags cloud, and a full Activity Heatmap.

Question 21

How do dashboard layout presets work?

Accepted Answer

You can switch your dashboard layout in one tap from the Customize Layout button (top-right of the dashboard). Built-in presets cover common modes — Habit Tracker, Minimalist, Study Mode, Productivity, Wellness, Recovery, Analytics, Social, Everything — and each one configures section order, hidden sections, the widget grid, expanded standalone widgets, and quick-action shortcuts in one move. You can also save your current layout as a custom preset; saved presets sync to Supabase so the same layout follows you across devices.

Question 22

How does Routines "Tap done" work — and is it reversible?

Accepted Answer

Tap done on a routine in the dashboard now mirrors an NFC tap on a routine-bound tag: every habit linked to the routine is logged for today (counter habits use their target value, binary habits get a single completion), the routine's streak ticks up, and if the routine has a paired widget (Pomodoro, Timer, Lists, Water, etc.) the dashboard redirects to it. Manual logs from earlier in the day are preserved — no double-counting. The green "Done" pill is reversible: tapping it un-marks the completion and removes only the routine-sourced logs, so accidental presses are one tap to recover.

Question 23

What are Milestone Badges?

Accepted Answer

Badges are earned automatically as you hit key milestones—logging your first habit, maintaining streaks, reaching total completion counts, and more. They appear on your Analytics page with the date you earned them. Locked badges show your current progress so you always know how close you are to the next one.

Question 24

What does the Day of Week pattern show?

Accepted Answer

The Day of Week chart (Basic and Pro) shows on which days of the week you complete the most habits. It helps you spot if you're stronger on weekdays vs weekends, so you can plan your habits around your natural rhythm or deliberately strengthen your weaker days.

Question 25

What is the Category Breakdown?

Accepted Answer

Category Breakdown groups your habits by category (health, fitness, productivity, mindfulness, learning, etc.) and shows the average completion rate for each group. It's a quick way to see which areas of your life are thriving and which might need more attention.

Question 26

What is a 30-Day Challenge?

Accepted Answer

A 30-Day Challenge is a structured commitment to a specific behavior for 30 consecutive days. You set a title, category, and start date, then track your daily progress inside the challenge. Challenges are a great way to kickstart a new habit with a defined endpoint and a sense of accomplishment when you finish.

Question 27

How do I start a challenge?

Accepted Answer

Go to Challenges from the dashboard, then tap "New Challenge." Fill in the challenge name, select a category, and pick a start date using the calendar picker. Once created, your challenge appears in your active list where you can log progress each day.

Question 28

What is the Community section?

Accepted Answer

The Community section is where you can share updates, wins, and tips with other Habit Nova members. You can post by selecting a category for your update, writing your message, and publishing it. You can also send direct messages to friends and accountability partners. It's a space for motivation, accountability, and connecting with people on the same journey.

Question 29

Are my challenge results linked to my habit analytics?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Completing challenge logs updates your analytics in real time. Challenge activity appears in your history and contributes to streak counts and milestone badges, so every challenge you finish helps build your overall progress picture.

Fitbit integration is available on the Pro plan. Go to Dashboard → Integrations and click "Connect Fitbit." You'll be redirected to Fitbit's authorization page. Once authorized, you can map Fitbit metrics (steps, sleep, active minutes, exercises, etc.) to specific habits in your account. When you sync, Habit Nova automatically logs the mapped habits based on your Fitbit data.

Question 32

Do subscribers get discounts on NFC tags in the shop?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Basic subscribers get 15% off all NFC products in the shop, and Pro subscribers get 25% off — both for life, as long as your subscription is active. The discount is applied automatically at checkout.

Question 33

Accepted Answer

Open Dashboard → Settings and find the Appearance section. Choose from preset themes including Light, Dark, and System (follows your device preference). Your selected theme applies across your entire dashboard and all pages instantly — widgets, analytics, and layout all update to match.

Question 34

How do I change my timezone?

Accepted Answer

Go to Dashboard → Settings → Account and use the Timezone dropdown to search for and select your timezone. This ensures your habit logs are attributed to the correct local date, which is especially important if you travel or log habits late at night.

Question 35

Can I export my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Saved AI Assessment results can be exported as PDF from the Saved Results page. Additional data export options (CSV, full history) are available on Basic and Pro plans. Contact us if you need a full account data export for compliance or personal backup.

Question 36

How do I cancel or change my subscription?

Accepted Answer

Go to Dashboard → Settings → Billing to manage your plan. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then. You can also switch between monthly and annual billing (save 20% annually). Downgrades to Free preserve all your habit data but limit you to 10 habits, 5 NFC tags, 2 lists, and 1 AI assessment per month. We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee on all subscriptions.

Question 37

What is the Organizations feature?

Accepted Answer

Organizations let you manage shared habit tracking for a team, gym, school, or company. As an admin you create org-wide habit templates that sync to every member, set up NFC/QR tags members can tap to log habits instantly, and view a real-time activity dashboard showing who completed what today. Each member also keeps their own personal habits running in parallel.

Question 38

Can I create more than one organization?

Accepted Answer

Yes — you can create as many organizations as you need. From the Organization dashboard, a "+ New" button in the org switcher bar lets you create another one at any time. Each org has its own members, habits, NFC tags, and billing.

Question 39

How do org plans and pricing work?

Accepted Answer

Org plans are per-seat: Starter ($3/seat/mo) supports up to 10 members, 5 habit templates, and 3 NFC tags. Team ($6/seat/mo) supports up to 50 members, unlimited habits, and 10 NFC tags with full analytics. Enterprise ($12/seat/mo) is unlimited across the board and includes SSO and dedicated support. Annual billing saves 33% on all plans. When a new member joins your org, the next invoice adjusts automatically.

Question 40

What are community (Universal) NFC/QR tags?

Accepted Answer

Universal tags are public NFC stickers or QR codes any Habit Nova user can scan — not just org members. When someone scans, a community habit is provisioned in their account and the tap is recorded. These are great for public spaces like gyms, cafés, or events. Community habits can only be logged by physically scanning the tag; manual back-logging is blocked to prevent false check-ins.

Question 41

Can members manually log org habits, or do they need to scan?

Accepted Answer

Regular org habits can be logged manually from the Habits page just like personal habits. Community (Universal) habits are scan-only — the "Log Today" button is replaced with a "Scan to Log" button that explains why, and the API blocks manual logs for those habits at the server level.

Question 42

How do I delete an organization?

Accepted Answer

Go to Organization → Settings → scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom. Type the org name to confirm, then tap "Delete Forever." This permanently removes all members, habits, NFC tags, announcements, and activity data for that org. Member accounts and their personal habits are not affected.

Question 44

What is your return policy?

Accepted Answer

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all physical products. If you're not satisfied with your purchase, contact us within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. Products must be in original condition. Digital products are non-refundable due to their nature, but we're happy to help troubleshoot any issues.

Question 45

Are your products suitable for beginners?

Accepted Answer

Question 47

What does science say about willpower?

Accepted Answer

Modern research shows willpower is like a muscle—it can be strengthened but also depletes with use (decision fatigue). Rather than relying on willpower, successful habit formation focuses on: environmental design, reducing decision points, automating behaviors, and working with your brain's reward system. Systems beat willpower every time.

Question 48

What is the habit loop?

Accepted Answer

The habit loop, identified by Charles Duhigg and neuroscience research, consists of three parts: (1) Cue—a trigger that initiates the behavior, (2) Routine—the behavior itself, (3) Reward—the benefit you gain that reinforces the behavior. Understanding this loop is key to both building new habits and breaking old ones. You can manipulate any part of this loop to change your habits.

Question 49

How does environment affect habit formation?

Accepted Answer

Environment is often more powerful than willpower. Research shows that context cues trigger automatic behaviors—up to 45% of our daily actions are habitual responses to environmental cues. By designing your environment (visual cues for good habits, removing cues for bad ones), you make desired behaviors easier and undesired ones harder. This is why NFC tags placed at key spots in your home can dramatically improve your logging consistency.

Question 50

What role does identity play in habit formation?

Accepted Answer

James Clear's research emphasizes that lasting change comes from identity shifts, not just behavior change. Instead of "I want to run" (outcome), think "I am a runner" (identity). When your habits align with your identity, they become self-reinforcing. Ask: "What would a [desired identity] do in this situation?" Focus on building evidence for your new identity through small wins.
